Beach - Velachery MRTS

Now that the MRTS has been opened till Velachery, the place where I work, I can occassionally commute by train. But the problem is I need to walk a fair distance to reach the station both near my home and near my work. Anyhow here is the schedule of the MRTS train from Beach to Velachery and vice versa. I normally subscribe to various RSS feeds to keep track of blogs and news. This way I need not visit the various web sites to check for new content. I came across a neat video explaining on how to use a feed reader (which is similar to your web-email client) and subscribe to various feeds. Here is the video:

There are two types of Internet users, those that use RSS and those that don't. This video is for the people who could save time using RSS, but don't know where to start.

By the way, I have recently added my latest posts from my other blogs on the right. They automatically update when I make a new post in my other blogs. Again the communication is via RSS feeds.

Enough time for Hobbies?

Are you the kind of person who wants to do / try out a lot of things, but never find enough time?

Well you have company. I am interested in a lot of hobbies but rarely find time to work on it. For example, I am interested in music and try to compose tunes. I play the keyboard in my office band. I also recently started to learn carnatic vocal. Because of which I have stopped going to tennis. I am also interested in Photography. I used to draw cartoons. I am already trying to do some scripts, skits and videos. And there are these games and 3D softwares in my computer which I am interested in, but rarely use. I play chess and TT. I want to blog regularly here but I hardly find enough time. And did I mention that I am a Software professional?

Anyway, I will pursue my interests whenever I find time.

Bought a Digital Camera

I now own a digital camera, one of my wish list item. I recently bought a Canon Powershot A610 and started using it. Please find a review of the camera at Steves Digicams.

I would like to explore photography, come up with some nice snaps and share with you all. You can find a flickr badge towards the bottom of my sidebar on this blog. This will always show my latest snaps at flickr.

Car cleaning services at public places

I very rarely clean my car / employ someone to clean my car regularly. That is when it struck me why don't establishments like Sathyam Cinemas, Spencer Plaza, and other places in Chennai offer car cleaning services at very nominal rates. It is good to get your car cleaned up while you go in to watch a movie at Sathyam Six Degrees / go around for shopping at Spencers. What do you say?

I have already sent out a mail to Sathyam cinemas just now. I am optimistic that they would consider this suggestion.

Techofes 2006

Close on the heels of Saarang 2006 is Techofes 2006, the annual cultural festival of Anna University, Chennai. Techofes starts today (10th Feb) and extends till 13th Feb. Today's Hindu has written an article on it.

No good veg. hotels in Velachery

I work in Velachery, Chennai. There are really no good vegetarian hotels in Velachery, something like Saravana Bhavan or Sangeetha. This is especially felt when one comes to work during the weekends. Recently, Saravana Bhavan opened up a branch in the Mylapore Tank area, where you already have hotels like Sangeetha, Vasantha Bhavan, etc. Instead they could have opened it here. They surely will have good business here. Velachery is a fast developing area, but right now it has no good hotels. Hope the situation changes soon.

Drawing Cartoons

I used to try my hand on drawing simple cartoons in my childhood like tintin, fido-dido, archies, etc. But I really never explored that hobby of mine after my school days. Yesterday there was power-cut in my home for about 5 hours and hence I couldn't sit in front of my computer or play my (musical) keyboard. I had earlier received a book on drawing cartoons as gift from my friend. The book is titled "How to Cartoon or Caricature anyone" by Mark Linley. I read the first 2 chapters and drew some cartoons given in the book. Please find my drawings below. I haven't yet tried the assignment given in Chapter 2.

P.S: The next thing I want to try is to create a painting using pastels that I received as gift from my friend. I tried one already but I am not good at painting. If something good turns up, I will post it.

Saarang 2006

It is the time of the year again. IIT Madras' Cultural Festival, Saarang 2006, is starting on 24th Jan. More details at:

I am planning to go for the Choreo Nite and probably Light Music Competition Finals. My mom too wanted to watch the light music finals. While I was in college (Anna University), we used to go every year to Saarang. Our dance troupe, Solomon Twisters, use to dance very well and they bagged several prizes. Choreo Nite will be really electrifying and looking forward to it. I am really not watching any professional shows this time.

Chennai Open 2006

Had the oppurtunity to watch the semifinals and finals of the Chennai Open 2006 with my colleagues. The semifinals between C Moya and R Stepanek was nail-biting to the finish with Moya coming on top at the end with scores 6-4 6-7(5) 7-6(3). Prior to the singles semifinals, there was this doubles semifinal between Prakash Amritraj, Rohan Bopanna vs a German pair I guess. The Indians won the first set comfortably and lost the second one. In the 3rd site which is directly a tie-breaker of 10 pts, they were down at 3-8 but made a great comeback and won the match.

The finals was not as close as the semifinals. Moya lost in straight sets and so did the Indian pair in the doubles.

Wish List

I would like to purchase the following items, but I am not buying it anytime soon. Anyhow I would love to own these things.

Digital Camera - I am pretty much interested in photography. I have a couple of film cameras and that is stopping me from buying a digital camera. I don't use the film camera much as the running cost is high. I just use it while on tour or during special ocassions.
SwarShala - This is a music composition software with special focus on Indian music and instruments. But the price for the full edition is quite high (around Rs. 8000 - Rs. 10,000). Hence I am not buying now.
Camcoder - Being interested in photography, the next logical extension would be a video camera. I want to try making short films. And for that I need a Camcorder.
